About Us

The Fort Armstrong Wireless Association (FAWA), K3QY, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was formed in 1981. The club is comprised of licensed amateur radio operators from Armstrong and surrounding counties in western Pennsylvania. The purpose was to have fun, provide camaraderie, and provide mutual assistance to make this a rewarding hobby.

We are affiliated with the Armstrong county emergency management agency, Western Pennsylvania Region 13 Task Force as well as state and federal emergency management agencies providing emergency and back up communications whenever the need arises. we have a radio room in  the Armstrong county emergency operations center and a well equipped communications trailer for on-location operations.

Our network affiliations include the amateur radio relay league (ARRL), amateur radio emergency services (ARES), radio amateur communications emergency services (RACES), the national traffic system (NTS), Pennsylvania auxiliary communications service (ACS) and the national weather service Skywarn system.

Our members come from a wide range of occupations and backgrounds and are licensed operators of multiple modes of amateur radio communications.

The club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Outdoor Discovery Center. All licensed radio amateurs and those interested in amateur radio are welcome to attend.

Our weekly public service radio net is held at 7:30 pm Mondays, on our K3QY repeater 145.410 with a minus offset and 173.8 PL tone.
